Tip of the Day.

tips

Why doesn't gaffers tape leave adhesive residue like duct tape?

Duct tape uses a natural rubber adhesive. Gaffers tape uses a much higher quality synthetic adhesive that doesn't leave a gummy residue when it is removed.

More Tips of the Day from buytape.com page 2

How sticky is tape?
A tape’s tackiness is measured by a statistic called “adhesion to steel”. Use this number to compare one tape to another.
Gaffers tape and duct tape are called “pressure sensitive tapes”
This means that they will stick without using water, solvent or heat. A little pressure is all you need.
Need to remove tape from a painted surface without damaging the paint?
Pull the tape gently at a 45 degree angle from the surface you need to protect?
The Non Sticky Side
The non-sticky side of tape on a roll has something called a “release coat” applied to it so that the tape can be unwound off the roll..
Vinyl Knowledge.
Vinyl is the most popular material for electrical tape because it provides the most effective electrical insulation. Not all vinyl tape is approved for electrical insulation.
Storing duct tape.
Storing rolls of duct tape “edge to edge” will quickly form an almost unbreakable bond between the rolls. If your tape is not shrink wrapped, you’ll need a silicon paper wafer or piece of wax paper between the rolls..
Need to cover up a logo for a video or photo shoot?
Use a little gaffers tape. It doesn’t reflect light and you can do a good color match.
More Storage Tips
If you need to store tape for a long time, keep it in a cool, dry place and turn it over from time to time so that the adhesive doesn’t migrate to one side of the roll.
Not enough cup holders in your car?
Try a roll of duct tape. It has enough adhesive on the side to hold in place and the cardboard tube is just the right size for your drink.
1 inch gaffers tape by any other name would be just as handy.
One inch wide gaffers tape is sometimes referred to as camera tape when it is used to create a light proof seal for film cans.
Clean is good
Guarantee maximum holding power for your tape by insuring that the surface you are taping to is dry, clean and free of grease or oil.
