Here's why.
Several years ago all the
major tape manufacturers converted to metric measurements for
determining tape sizes. This was an attempt to absorb additional raw
material costs without actually raising prices. Now its almost
impossible to find a tape that is labeled 2 in. wide that is actually
that wide.
Here is how it is
actually measured:
1 inch width-24 mm
2 inch width-48 mm
3 inch with-72 mm

Tip of the Day.
 More Storage Tips
If you need to store tape for a long time, keep it in a cool, dry place and turn it over from time to time so that the adhesive doesn’t migrate to one side of the roll.
