Wondering why your 2 inch tape isn't 2 inches wide?

Here's why.

Several years ago all the major tape manufacturers converted to metric measurements for determining tape sizes. This was an attempt to absorb additional raw material costs without actually raising prices. Now its almost impossible to find a tape that is labeled 2 in. wide that is actually that wide.

Here is how it is actually measured:

1 inch width-24 mm

2 inch width-48 mm

3 inch with-72 mm
