Here's why.
Several years ago all the
major tape manufacturers converted to metric measurements for
determining tape sizes. This was an attempt to absorb additional raw
material costs without actually raising prices. Now its almost
impossible to find a tape that is labeled 2 in. wide that is actually
that wide.
Here is how it is
actually measured:
1 inch width-24 mm
2 inch width-48 mm
3 inch with-72 mm

Tip of the Day.
 Wide Tape can be a good thing.
If you find yourself needing more than one strip of tape to hold down your cables, try a wider width. Using 3 inch or 4 inch wide gaffers tape saves time and money
