All Duct Tapes Are Not Created Equal

Have you ever wondered why there is such a big ranged of prices in duct tape?

Not all duct tape is made from the same material

 

Duct tape is has a backing of polyethlyene coated cloth. The amount of material (thread count) in the cloth backing is what gives duct tape its strenght and durability. Less expensive tape has less fabric in the backing.

 

Not all duct tape uses the same adhesive

Duct tape has a natural rubber-based adhesive which is what makes it sticky. the quantity and quality of the rubber in the adhesive varies from brand to brand.

Not all duct tape is the same thickness

Premium quality duct tape (e.g. Nashua 398) is at least 11 mils thick. Less expensive duct tape may be as thin as 8 mils

Roll length

A standard roll of duct tape is 60 yds. long. Many less expensive rolls are shorter, sometimes as short as 50 yds.
